[recensere]Lots of oddities already in the first paragraph: 'De qua [cum] tam variae sint doctissimorum hominum tamque discrepantes sententiae, magno argumento esse debeat [ea] causa, principium philosophiae ad h* scientiam, prudenterque Academici a rebus incertis adsensionem cohibuisse.'
This doesn't make sense to me and the emendations don't help. In contrast, I find online the following version, which seems to make much more sense:
'De qua tam variae sunt doctissimorum hominum tamque discrepantes sententiae, ut magno argumento esse debeat causam et principium philosophiae esse inscientiam, prudenterque Academicos a rebus incertis adsensionem cohibuisse.'
It looks as if the Wikisource edition is based on some very distorted version, or perhaps it is just the result of OCR? Another remarkable fact is that the Wikisource version of this passage gets many more hits on Google than the one that makes sense to me - perhaps because of other pages copying Wikisource? 78.154.15.163 19:49, 26 Iunii 2025 (UTC)
