Summarium

Descriptio
English: An hermetic illustration representing how the various Gods and Goddesses of classical Greek-Roman mythology truly are representations, with different names, of the different properties of the Sun (the gods) and of the Moon (the goddesses); for instance it is stated that Jupiter represents the "vis penetatriva", or penetration force, of the Sun's rays, Apollo represents the power of the sun in illuminating and enlighting the world ("vis calefactiva"), while Venus represents the "vis seminalis", or reproductive strenght, of the Moon and so on. It is also shown how the Sun properties (and so its relation with each god) change with the seasons and with the astrological ecliptic, while the Moon's properties change with its phases. An extensive exposition (in latin) can be found here. Extracted from 1679 book Turris Babel by Athanasius Kircher
