This should maybe be an extension, instead of a template...

It seems it cannot be complexified to lookup potential indexes going up to parent page's parent page etc. (I don't quite get it, but it looks like section transclusion excludes any powerful parser function code in its vicinity...)

~~The only remaining possibility to make this work with many levels (if need arises) of subpages is putting plenty a redirect around...~~

And there is no possibility to put a link in the main page (or if that were allowed, one would need one redirect per subpage (leaf)... which seems, well, simply too much bother, too much clutter, too much)
