About eis and other itwikisource tools
[recensere]@Xover: Just to let you know that I'm testing here some of out itwikisource tools. I find that moving tools into another project is an interesting strategy to rethink, simplify, debug them. Itwikisource is a really complex project, lawikisource is much simpler, so if you would like to test the tools here, just ask me. --Alex brollo (disputatio) 06:51, 29 Iulii 2021 (UTC)
- @Alex brollo: Thanks. I appreciate the note. Could you give me a quick list of the tools you're thinking of testing out here? I may try to crib some of them for testing on enWS, if they're not too complicated (i.e. eis is probably a bit more ambitious than what I have the capacity for in the foreseeable future). - As you imagine, they are "user scripts", far from a decent programming style and documentation. I'm working on a monoblock script, Usor:Alex brollo/PersonalTools.js; to run it, simply link it into your common.js page (as I do in Usor:Alex brollo/common.js and copy too into your common.css page the content of Usor:Alex brollo/common.css. You'll find a simple working list of features into Usor:Alex brollo/tools. If you like, I can try to import the scripts into en.wikisource, as personal scripts, just to see if they need any generalization. --Alex brollo (disputatio) 08:18, 29 Iulii 2021 (UTC)
- @Alex brollo: Thanks. I have little hope they can be used without significant changes on enWS, not mainly for technical reasons but because of differences in community practices and similar. But after a long period of very little getting done (an older generation of technical contributors that went inactive around 2016) we're now starting to make some progress on tools again, so I'd like to see if there are any good ideas we can steal and adapt to enWS. I think the ideas and approaches, and the associated "knowhow", are the most critical thing to enable better sharing of between the Wikisourcen. If we can directly share technical implementations too that would be a bonus, but the ideas are the most important. Incidentally, if I steal anything from you and think I can add anything worthwhile I'll be sure to ping you. If I put any significant effort into anything it'll most likely be with an eye towards turning it into a community-wide Gadget and at least a nod towards i18n, so the changes might be useful to bring back to your original too. We'll see. PS. If you want to experiment for your own sake at enWS, myself and Inductiveload are the ones most directly engaged in technical issues at enWS. Inductiveload is our one local Interface Administrator so he handles most of our non-user JavaScript tasks. We're both happy to help out if there's anything we can do, so feel free to ping or drop us a note. Xover (disputatio) 08:46, 29 Iulii 2021 (UTC)
- Ok thank you for interest. I'm going to try. --Alex brollo (disputatio) 11:51, 29 Iulii 2021 (UTC)
